Visit Makerere University

Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning. Dr. Julia Kigozi, a lecturer in Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering, is a very valued colleague in our Ugandan-European team. In December 2021, we agreed to meet at the university to discuss the details of our project.

Together with Julia, we plan the processes in our small factory. Due to her support, we have the stainless steel equipment such as work tables, shelves and washbasins, which are manufactured on site in Uganda according to our specific plans.

Rashid, the head of our cooperative, left Kangulumira early in the morning in a shared cab to take part in the visit. He is standing in the office of All in Trade Ltd. in his dark blue suit right on time. Happy to see each other after such a long time, we then head out on our way to the university.

The university campus is like a small town with a guarded entrance gate where you have to register.

We visit the laboratory of the university. Here Julia and her colleagues will help us with appropriate tests to control the perfect quality standards of our products.

We are also allowed to take a look at an experimental dairy on the premises. The practical implementation of the teaching is obviously given. The practical realization of the theory at the dairy was accomplished.

At the university, we also meet with Jane Nalunga for a workshop. Jane is also a valuable team member. She was CEO of the Umbrella Organization for Organic Agriculture in Uganda (NOGAMU) for many years. Today, the agronomist is a consultant and develops a special training program for farmers with Rashid, the head of our partner cooperative. Jane also produces pure shea butter for skin care for her small business, The Organic Maze. This souvenir from our colleague, of course, makes us very happy!
