Twiga Sun Fruits® was born out of the determination to provide small scale farmers in a cooperative in Uganda with prospects, a fair income and sustainable prosperity. Uganda is known for year-round high agricultural yields due to its geographical location on the equator and excellent soil quality. Yet Uganda is still one of the least developed countries in the world.
Project
Access to energy and technology -
we're building a small solar powered factory.
Today, the cooperative dries about 6% of its harvest in small tunnel dryers. The fruit is dried by direct sunlight and protected by plastic tarps. This form of drying not only creates varying and unstable levels of quality but also unpredictable production quantities. In addition, there is a lack of overall capacity for packaging and storage.
