The suitcases are still open. Clothes, work boots, and a sun hat are packed, unpacked, and packed again. After all, when you are leaving for an entire year in a country you have never been to before, every single item suddenly feels important.
For our Felix, the adventure begins on August 7, when he starts his Voluntary Social Year. It will be a year filled with new experiences, new friendships, and a culture he has only come to know through our stories and photos.
A whole new world is waiting for him here on our small farm in Uganda. He will discover what life on a working farm is really like, learn about agriculture, and experience how pineapples and many other tropical fruits are grown. More importantly, he will get to know the people, share their everyday life, and experience Uganda in a way that no guidebook could ever teach.
Before then, there is still plenty to do. The final preparations are underway, and the excitement is growing every day. It will probably only truly sink in once Felix arrives at the airport and realizes that this incredible journey is finally beginning.
